Privacy Policy

This policy explains, in plain language, what data the Léelo app and this website do and do not handle.

The short version

Léelo does not run its own servers and does not collect, sell, or share your personal information. There is no account to create beyond the Apple Account already on your device. Word definitions, sentence translations, and (where used) AI features run on-device using Apple’s frameworks. The only place your reading data goes is your own iCloud account, so it can sync between your own iPhone and iPad.

Data stored on your device and in your iCloud

So that the app is useful, Léelo saves the following, using Apple’s SwiftData and CloudKit:

• The books in your library, including any EPUB files you import
• Words and phrases you’ve saved, and your definition/translation history
• Reading progress, streaks, and achievement data
• App settings and preferences

This data is stored locally on your device and, if you have iCloud enabled, synced through your own private iCloud account so it’s available on your other Apple devices. We do not have a copy of it, and we cannot see it. It is removed when you delete the app and sign out of iCloud sync for Léelo, subject to Apple’s own iCloud backup behavior.

Translation and definitions

Word definitions come from an on-device dictionary you can download in Settings, or from Apple’s on-device Apple Intelligence, whichever you choose. Sentence translations use Apple’s on-device Translation framework. This processing happens on your device. We do not receive the words or sentences you look up.

No tracking or advertising in the app

Léelo contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking software development kits (SDKs). We do not use cookies, device fingerprinting, or cross-app tracking inside the app. Léelo does not request access to your camera, microphone, contacts, or location.

This website

This website (leeloreader.com) is hosted on Cloudflare, which may log standard technical information, such as IP address and browser type, as part of normal web hosting and security. We have not added any analytics, advertising, or tracking scripts of our own to this site.

Your purchase

Léelo Premium is sold through the Apple App Store, either as a $5.99/month auto-renewing subscription with a 30-day free trial, or a one-time $49.99 lifetime purchase. Your payment is handled entirely by Apple; we never see your payment details. Information related to your purchase is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.

Children’s privacy

Léelo does not knowingly collect personal information from children, and since the app collects no personal data on our own servers, this applies regardless of age. The app is suitable for learners of all ages.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new “last updated” date.
